CB Culture Tour Event at the Museum

Celebrate arts & culture at the Museum with special activities, daily outdoor tours, and special guests as well as a community mural!
The Museum will be open Saturday & Sunday 10am to 6pm by donation with outdoor tours at 11am, 1pm, & 3pm.
Our awesome community mural will be available for everyone to contribute to a large scale mining painting from one of our historical photos and created thanks to our Researcher and local artist Sarah Taekema!

Local Artist Demonstrations:
Raphael Akiba Art - on site Saturday with an art demo
Raphael Akiba is a Canadian visual artist originally from Montreal who has been living in Rossland for the last 7 years. Finding inspiration in nature, Raphael creates living, breathing gardenscapes with little to no initial plan. From floral to coral, he’ll paint it as long as it’s colorful, pretty and squiggles alittlelot. He believes that putting just the right amount of intention into his paintings will let the magic of imagination become reality. Alex Moon - On-site both days with live painting
Alex is an artist of many mediums living in the Kootenay mountains of British Columbia in the Sinixt Territory. She enjoys expressing her vision through tattooing, illustration, mural painting, aerial movement, and live painting. Alex owns her own private studio in Rossland called In The Moon Studio.
She is inspired by fantasy, myths, psychedelics, visionary experiences, magic, science fiction, and the natural world. "I hold integrity and ethics in the highest value, I believe in staying true to my artistic vision. "

Whitney Lesiuk - Needle Felting on Sunday from 1-3pm
Whitney is an illustrator and graphic designer who is delighted to be back in the Kootenays after a long time spent in Calgary and Vancouver.
Aside from her artistic endeavours, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking, traveling, eating, and cuddling cats, even though she is allergic. During this year's Art demonstration, she will be demoing one of her favourite hobbies - needle felting. You can see some her adorable post cards of needle felted Rossland-inspired characters in the museum gift shop!

Ellie Knox - on-site both days 12-4pm with blacksmith demo
Ellie was born and raised in Rossland and has always been a part of the local art scene. She enjoyed the drama club for which she made costumes and did makeup for events, including the fright night events! She also made a large scale sculpture for JL Crowe secondary school. Last year she attended Selkirk’s sculptural metal program and enjoyed the blacksmithing portion so much. Ellie explores the living, soft element of wood with the hard sharp elements of steel by creating tools and knives that are themselves, art.
Ellie will be using a propane forge to heat the metal, an anvil as her work surface, and a hammer to manipulate the steal. Ellie will also be bringing some of her current work, including knives, frying pans, and even hair pins.

Plus we'll have Sarah Barr from the VISAC Art Gallery on site for a fun watercolour flower activity on Saturday from 10am-1pm.
